Turtlewax Rubbing Compound
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:39:24 AM »
Can this be used on bowling balls and what type of finish would this put on a ball? It's just normal Turtlewax Rubbing Compound, the liquid, not the paste.

As a safe bet, I'd stick with stuff actually meant to go on bowling balls.  Is there a list of whats in the TurtleWax stuff?

I do know that silicon can clog the pores of a bowling ball, and on the front label, it says "Silicon free formula!". I guess if worse comes to worst, at least I know have something to polish my plastic ball with, instead of using expensive bowling polishes.

If you are going to spend the money on high end balls, you should probably suck it up and spend money on stuff that won't damage your equipment.  Why buy the expensive balls then skimp out on maintenace?  If anything, try the stuff on a ball you don't use anymore and see what it does, before and after.  If you like what you see, keep doing it, but if something goes wrong don't be too surprised.

I don't know about the rubbing compound, but they also make/made a white polishing compound.

I used to use that to polish bowling balls ( back in the blue wolf days ) and it worked fine back then.

I don't know what it would do to some of the newer covers, but it worked fine for me on my older reactives, as long as I cleaned any residue from the surface after polishing.

It works great on a spinner. Used it for years after sanding.

I was think about this too( but never tried). IMHO a product that won't harm the paint should not harm the balls especilly when we're going to wipe it off immediately.

Also if the pores can be clogged then any sanding( that'd produce very fine particles);Rough Bluff; polishes; etc. can clog them too. Just my 2 cents......
