Black Magic Polish?
« on: March 25, 2008, 12:10:38 PM »
Anyone use this and have some info on it?  I'm looking to try a new polish.  Any other suggestions on a good all around polish?

For what it's worth. I use the Black Magic Rejuvenator (cleaner) and it's excellent.

I have found that when I try to put a high gloss polish on with it, it tends to clog the pores and it winds up cutting the backend down, like Control-It and Delayed Reaction. If you use it to apply a light polish, it seems to work well. Be careful about applying a lot OR of pressing hard and burning it in.

Black Magic leaves a very shiny finish. I agree with charlest, can tend do diminish reaction if you use too much.
I prefer Brunswick High Gloss Polish...very easy to use, and always a good finish.

I grabbed some Big B high gloss for now since the shop near here had it.  I might order some BM down the road.

It is a good replacement, in my experience, because neither have abrasives in them to affect the base finish with which you start.

I too prefer Brunswick High Gloss Polish. Legends has a good polish also and I have found it to out last other polishes before a ball needs to be "touched up" again, but the draw back on it for me is that it is too sensitive for me in getting the correct shine. No room for error whereas with Brunswick High Gloss, it isn't as sensitive and there is a bit of room for error. That's how it works for me....I can't speak for others.

On the conditions I bowl on it is extremely JUMPY!

If you want big increase in reaction this baby has it!
Black Magic!

For me it goes in this order. Least reaction to most.
Track Delayed reaction
Ebonite Particle Polish
Finesse it(love it also) long and very smooth
Storm Xtra shine
Storm Reacta shine(my favorite)
Columbia degree 2000 on top of 600 grit
Brunswick Factory polish
Black Magic.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I have not tried everything this is just what I have used.

You're still leaving out FAR, FAR too many other factors,  invovled in the polishing process:
- the ball.
- the base sanding grit level of the ball,
- how much polish you're applying,
- how long you are spinning the ball, applying the polish,
- how hard you are pressing,
- what type of cloth you are using,
- etc.

ALl these affect the final product, to a variable, BUT NOT INSIGNIFICANT degree

Just got some and I absolutly love it. I took about an hour and polished it by hand and I think it works better.

is the above product this? ...Brunswick "Factory" Finish High Gloss Polish

http://www.bowlingball.com/Bowling-Accessory-4861/brunswick-factory-finish-high-gloss-polish--32oz-.html

Just wondering 'cause I just ran out of polish and I was looking for polish with no abrasives in it.

Plus the word Factory was not in the above sentence and even though it probably is the same product I just want to make sure that it is.

Btw, why is there soooooooooooooooooooo many different ways of saying Bowling Ball Polish in the bowling world

There's only one Brunswick "High Gloss Polish" that I know about. That picture on that web page is it. Very good stuff. No abrasive, as far as I know.

Because at different times, there are different polishes by different names, marketed by the same manufcaturers. They do not stay the same "throughout all eternity".

FYI Lanemasters also has a polish called "Factory Finish" polish. It also is very good and does not have abrasives in it.

Ebonite also has a polish called Powerhouse "Factory Finish" polish. It DOES have abrasives in it.

That is why I try to be explicit in what I am talking about.

I apply all the above polishes in about the same way.

Set my underneath base sanding level.  In the area I bowl usually about 1000 1500 or 2000 with 1500 being the most common.

Then I apply the polish in the same way.  4 sides.....where my track is....top equator of ball, non track side and bottom of ball.

My spinner is not high speed like some others....I apply medium pressure and probably never go over 1 minute a side or only slightly over.

Given those parameters that above is what I find.  That is probably a worthless analysis as I have neglected....local barametric pressure, recent outside precipitation, type of lane oil, my axis rotation, my axis tilt, humidity in center, time of day, oiling times, oiling pattern, particle or reactive balls, sport or league conditions, my recent golf scores, recent relationship satisfaction, recent high series parameters, differential of the balls, pin up or pin down, symmetric or non symmetric, recent job earnings, college, high school or some grad school, scientific, business or liberal arts degree.and a few other things.....

Otherwise if not for above,,,,my results are valid.
