Matte = Dull in real life practical terms,
BUT
in bowling's use of these terms, we often use "Matte" to denote finer grits and "Dull" to denote lower grits.
Dull is most often used for 320, 400, 600, 800, maybe even as high as 1000 grit.
Matte is usually used for 1200, 1500, 2000, 3000 (very new) and 4000 grit.
1000 and 1200 seem to be on the borderline depending on who is doing the describing.
