Brunswick High Gloss Polish
« on: March 03, 2006, 12:44:17 AM »
It has long been taken to be the case that the black labelled Black Magic polish does not change the surface of a ball, just polishes it--in other words, it's a gritless polish.  The label of that product does not say anything about removing small scratches.

I have been reading various posts that compare Brunswick High Gloss Polish to Black Magic, with some people liking one more than the other.  It seems to also be taken to be the case that Brunswick High Gloss Polish is a gritless polish.

Yet...the label on Brunswick High Gloss Polish claims that it removes small scratches--a claim not made by Black Magic.  If Brunswick High Gloss Polish is gritless, how does it remove scratches?

i guess the words "small" or "fine" as they refer to the scratches, are a relative term. the brunswick polish is gritless. but as it's applied with a high speed spinner the combination of speed, heat buildup, and the polish itself may, i repeat may, be able to revove small or fine scratches.

Thanks, Greg.  I'm just looking for as much info as I can get.  I haven't tried the Brunswick product yet, although I did buy a small bottle.

Any polish will use some wax or filler to seal the surface to some point - scratches included. You do not necessarily need a gritty or abrasive polish to accomplish this. It is much like a car polish: you can either use an abrasive one to tear down the weathered parts of the paintjob, and/or youcan use polishing wax to fill pores, increase lustre and finish off the surface.

Brunswick's High Gloss Polish is the latter kind, and I tried it with various grit bases (400 as recommended by Brusnwick for factory finish to 1.500 grit on some Storm equipment), and it works just fine. You will not be able to let real scratches disappear, just superficial usage signs. But it works on any ball I used it from Brunswick, Ebonite and Storm. Good stuff.

Thanks, Diz.  Have you used Black Magic?  I'm wondering how you would compare the two.

I am currently using a light slap of Black Magic as the final touch on my surface prep routine for an Enriched Uranium.  Since the Enriched is a Brunswick coverstock, it might make sense to try the Brunswick product on it, but I am so highly satisfied with the results I am getting out of that ball now, I am not going to risk a change at this point.  I'm not presently using a polish product of this type on any other ball, so I haven't tried out my Brunswick High Gloss Polish yet.

No, sorry, I was only able to use/test Brunswick's stuff so far, since it is the only polish available around here without greater problems. But I consider it "safe" to use it on anything you like, and with the base grit before the polish you can also influence the ball reaction.
