I think its a great idea. I guess ice chest and bowling balls never really clicked until you mentioned it.
What about this: take a bucket and some kitty litter, the real fine stuff, and fill a bucket halfway. Insert the ball and fill the bucket until it covers the ball. Now get another bucket(or ice chest) and fill it with hot water and take the kitty litter bucket and put it in. In theory, it would work. The kitty litter absorbs the oil and the hot water will make the ball sweat. This should save on water changes, with only warming it the only problem.
You should market the ice chest, put some ball cups in and patent it.
Still a great idea!! Not sure about my idea,though.......
