Is there a way to return an Absolute to box finish without buying the actual polish? I've had my AI slightly polished since I got it used, and I'm beginning to think that maybe the rough-buff factory finish will take out some of the over-under I sometimes get. Is it possible to get the ball to that finish without using the actual solution?

You can probably approximate it, but I do not believe you can duplicate it. It might be easiest to just buy a small jar of Rough Buff.

possibilities:
- Ebonite's Matte finish applies a 1200 grit dull finish to a ball. YOu can sand the AI to 400 or 600 grit and then try a LIGHT application of Matte FInish.
- Track's Clean and SMooth is supposed to apply a 1500 grit finish to a ball. If you continue pressing hard enough, it will become a very fine polish. Sand the ball to 600 or 800 grit and apply a light application of this.
- Sand AI to 600 and try a light application of rubbing compound, just enough to remove any sandinglines and NOT result in a polished surface.

Those are my best guesses. As you can see, it can be time consuming and tedious and I am not sure if the result will be close enough to satisfy your needs. It is, I guarantee, much easier to spend the $15 or share a bottle of it with someone and just get the appropriate product. Heck, if I or anyone else gives you 1/2 of my bottle for $5 then ships it to you, it'll still be $10 or more.
