Question about Ball Vertex Spinners
« on: September 30, 2005, 03:58:40 AM »
Ok guys & gals. I'm looking at 2 spinners at the moment...

http://www.vertexmold.com/VertexMoldBowlingBallSpinner.htm

I was looking at two items
1. Personal Ball Spinner (435 rpms)
Price: 1/3 HP unit $169.95 & 1/2 HP unit $189.95

or

2. 5 Pin Ball Spinner (540 RPM)
Price: 1/3 H.P. $179.95 & 1/2 H.P. $199.95

My question is, is the only difference in the speed? One is 435 RPM and the other one is faster at 540 RPM. The faster one also looks like it has a wider base unit. The thing that gets me is that the faster one is only $10 more.

Is the Speed and Size of the Base the only Difference?

Help! and Thanks in advance!

Ram,

Go for the faster one.  Faster = less time + less effort (if it really matters).  That's basically the only difference as I haven't tried/used the lesser powered spinner

SIZE matters?

Ram, I would get the 2nd one. No reason, I just feel like i have to fit in and agree with boss!!          honestly, if you fel like throwing out the extra money *10 bucks* I say go for the 1/2 HP 540 RPM's. It would be abetter choice!

whiz, you may actually be correct as I overlooked the '5 pin' comparison.  I thought he was only interested in the diff between 1/3 & 1/2 hp spinners.  My bad.
Good catch.

You are correct wiz.  The 5 pin spinner is for a much smaller ball.  The picture onthe website is a correct showing of the size of the 5 pin ball.

You do not want that one.

Thanks guys, I just emailed Vertex. Yeah, who knows, that 5-pin ball spinner might be for duck pin bowling or something. I'll update you guys on what they say...

Thanks Y'all!

Nope, wrong answer.

Speed doesn't matter, power doesn't matter.
For a ball spinner, torque is what matters. The Vertex is slower than the Donkee, but it has lots more torque, the real measure of power. (ONa  car, in general, when two motor/transmissions have equall horsepower, the motor with more torque will make the car accelrate faster. The higher horsepower is resonsible for higher top end speed.

The Vertex takes more power to stop than a Donkee. Those are the only two spinner I have experience with.

I assume some of the industral motors on Pro shop spinners might have even more torque but they can be expensive.

everyone, thanks for clearing everything up!

Charlest...with that said, where should I start off with buying variety pack of sandpaper/abralon/etc. at a great price? Should I just visit the local Super Hardware store? (OSH, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.?)

Is there a website that sells scuff pads at a great price?

Thanks!
