I have a Smokin Inferno. All I know is that the finish is polished. I would like to create a little more backend when I move inside after the lanes have broken down. I don't think the surface has ever been touched since I got it and I have bowled a lot of games with it.
Is there a way to sand it down then bring the ball back and polish it to give it more backend to carry inside angles? I don't have many revs and need as much help from the ball as I can get.

Not really. YOu really need to re-drill it to give it more backend or change your release a bit.
However if you haven''t touched the surface since you bought it, you might have developed a track or at least dulled the track area a bit. Plus it probably absorbed a bunch of oil.
I''d suggest
1. Sand it to 400 grit thoroughly to remove most of the track and have the oil extracted with a Revivor oven. Many pro shops have them.
2. Re-polish it with Brunswick''s High Gloss Factory Finish polish. It is usually applied over a 400 grit sanding. Put a decent polish on it without a ton of gloss. If you can''t get Brunswick''s Factory Finish polish, sand it to about 1000 or 1500 grit and put a light coat of a non-abrasive polish on it. That under-grit level should give you a decent amount of backend on medium-light to almost medium oil, the Smoking''s strength.

I would follow charlest's program for resurfacing the ball and the oil extraction. This will return the ball to a like new condition. Using a hand release with a little more axis rotation( say 45 degrees )will result in more backend reaction.
