Cleaner Comparison
« on: February 04, 2010, 02:52:51 AM »
A while back someone on here had done a comparison between what were known as the best cleaners on the market and I cannot seem to find that post. Might be because of the time limit on post searching on this site. But anyway it compared the Lane Masters cleaner with a couple others and I have to buy a new bottle of cleaner and really want to know if anyone has any of that information. If my memory serves me right there was a cleaner that was as good as lane masters but you didn't have to use as much to get the ball clean? I currently use Lane Masters and I don't like the amount I seem to have to use, it seems kindof wasteful.

In my experience, Lanemasters cleaner is unparalleled in both performance and odoriferousness as an everyday cleaner.

As a from-time-to-time deep cleaner, Clean-and-Dull is good stuff.

I'm finding myself now preferring Valentino cleaners over both of those.  Remedy is excellent stuff to keep in the bag for use after (or even during) a set.  For deeper cleaning, Resurrection is great stuff.  I like it as a light resurfacer.  On a spinner, it leaves a high-grit finish with the barest of shine.  By hand, a much duller finish.  In both cases, you get a squeaky clean ball.

And the poor-man's solution of half Simple Green, half alcohol, half water is still good.  It ain't ball-specific cleaner, but the price is right.

I agree with Shelly....Those are my two favorites, Remedy RX & Resurrection as well as Clean & Dull for periodic deep cleaning.

Question on this topic - I have never owned a Storm ball before, but have an Invasion waiting for me back home (that is if I beat the weather tomorrow and get out of DC).  I understand they each have a 'smell' (Invasion is Mulberry).  Does that smell go away with cleaning??

It shouldn't.  I've got a couple of Storm balls and after I restore the finish on a spinner, I do notice that the scent seems to be stronger, probably because the scent is part of the coverstock.

To Justink, I found this older post, is it the one you were looking for?

from what ive tried:

#1 - clean n dull - this stuff cleans really deep! ever leave your ball in the cold or have your ball soak up oil and you can see it in the track? clean n dull is the only product ive ever seen/used that can get it all out. It is also the only cleaner ive ever tried that gets all the marks off my ball.

#2 - remedy from valentino bowling.

a few others are good too. I remember ultimate rejuvenator being really good, it just didnt take belt marks or scuffs off the ball at all but it was great at emulsifying (sp?) oil. lanemasters was an amazing cleaner to use but the smell is/was horrific to me and triggered migraines.

I am excited about the new cleaners coming out from Lane Masters and also I guess they have a new formula or something for their main cleaner. I am going to try out Valentino on a sample basis.

Thank you all, but I don't think you can search far enough back to find the post I am referring to. I don't like the limits on this site and I think we get allot of people asking the same questions over and over due to that limit on searching. They list the amount of posts in a certain topic, but we can't even come close to searching all of them for some needed info. It reminds me of when I go back looking through past issues of BTM and can't find that one issue with that one ball or article I want, just really annoying. But I'll get off my box, sorry.
Thank you again for your help

Lane masters is bar none the best everyday cleaner. The smell is quite obnoxious but supposably they have new stuff that doesn't smell bad anymore.

Remedy RX is easily second, I love carrying it to league in the bag for after use cleaner.

Clean and dull, well we all know how good that stuff is. Lane masters I-Tack could be a contender, Results will tell when it comes out.

Resurrection is an amazing cleaner/resurfacer. My favorite compound easily.

Sum it up, Valentino and Lanemasters are well above the rest of the field.

I have been using Clean and Dull for quite some time now, I just got a bottle of the Ebonite stuff. It seems to perform the same as Tracks. I ordered the 3 bottle package from Valentino's this morning, hope it comes with a pizza.... Nevermind. Today is the last day of their little sale. So I will get to try all of their main products out for myself. I think that the remedy is what they liked in that other post I was originally asking about, but I'll never know now. So we'll just give it a spin on the old home-made and see how it turns out.

Justink,

were you able to read the replies in the link I had posted earlier?  I am just wondering if the problem may be that you have your Preferences set so that you can not read any message older than 30 days?  Many users on this site make the mistake of going to their Preferences and making a change.  Unfortunately, once you do make any kind of change, it sets an automatic limit on how far back you can see/read messages.

I agree that the Search feature here is bad, being limited to 30 days, but you should be able to do a manual search of all of the forums and see back 2-4 years, so if you know which forum a post is likely to be in, you could look through all of the subjects in that forum and peruse the most likely ones to find the information you are seeking.  If you are unable to see back 2-4 years, try using the advise located in the FAQ link in my signature below.  After that, you should be able to go back that far manually.

Yeah I checked my preferences again and I am set to the max 120 days, I also tried the links in your post for searching further and it seems that you must not be able to do that at all anymore, because when trying to search anything over 120 days it sent me to a search that only gave me 120days. So I guess I'll just try my new cleaners and see about them and we'll all just deal with the reoccurrence of the same old questions over and over.

Also I now have your little post there linked, that is some great info and I may just make it available offline in my cache and print a copy. Just in case ballreviews decide to axe that too.

Valentino Remedy Rx for during league use.
Clean 'N Dull for after league use.

Needless to say, my balls are always clean and clean balls are happy balls.

never used clean n dull, but am wanting to try it. do you mainly use it on your duller stuff or do you use it on all equipment and then take the surface back to what you had on it, whether it be 2-4k and or polish?

Clean and Dull is a misnomer. It does not dull balls because it does not have an abrasive in it. It can be used on any ball, poilshed or dull, pearlor solid, particle or urethane.

It is just a very strong, deep cleaner that should be used once a month or so on your every day balls. If you use all dull balls on heavy oil regularly, you may want to use it every time you bowl, but do it at home. The process is 3 steps requiring both wet paper towels and dry ones. So it's better done at home. It will actually remove some of the oil that has soaked in to the top layers of the ball, but it won't do a true extraction.
