I'm wondering about cleaning a ball. This past fall, I had my Danger Zone resurfaced and it came back with more life than it had out of the box. The local pro shop told me to use Renew-It to clean it off. So after league when I got home I would use the Renew-It. When it ran out another pro shop told me I could use Clean & Dull. Needless to say, my Zone hasn't been the same since. I've recently bought 3 new balls (I'm switching to 15# instead throwing 16#), and the guy who drilled them (the same one who drilled my Zone) made it sound like I could be cleaning my arsenal too much. So I've decided to change my cleaning schedule to Windex after 3 games per ball, with Renew-It on the Zone and my new Deuce after 15 games, and the Clean & Dull for my new Mutant after 15 games. Would that still be too much, or am I just being paranoid?

I don't think you can clean a ball too often. Something else you can do to prolong the life of the ball is give it a treatment of "Docs Magic Elixer" every 25-30 games. It is a solution you put on your ball that keeps it from absorbing oil and has no side affects other than some have said they had increased backend reaction with it. I use it along with Simple Green which I think works better than windex and I have a Storm Eraser Boost with at least 200 games on it no resuface and still has good reaction a little earlier than new but still very good.

I doubt if you're cleaning too much; hard to do that. What you may be doing is using the wrong "cleaner" on the wrong ball. Renew-it is both a cleaner and a polish; so every time you used it you were both cleaning the DZ AND adding a little more shine to it. Clean and Dull is intended primarily for duller, matte or non-polished balls. WHen you cleaned the DZ with it, you dulled it a little bit each time and while it does an excellent job of cleaning a ball, your DZ got slightly duller each time, which would have made it go into a roll ever so slightly earlier. You probably needed more shine (like the polish your driller gave your DZ) to get the necessary length to retain enough energy on the lanes on which you are bowling - is my guess.

There are many cleaners on the market that will JUST clean the ball; try one or two and save the "polishers" for polishing and the "dullers" for dulling.

Track's Clean and Dull is like Neo-Tac's Hook-it: they are meant for deep down cleaning (I believe) after 25-40 games; both help to actually remove some absorbed oil (not all of it, of course).

Even plain household degreasers like Simple Green and 409 have been recommended by many people here for daily cleaning.

Woah - stormin1 - you've got it backwards about the elixer...
I've used it on a couple of balls, and what I get when using it is a WHOLE LOT MORE LENGTH!!!

It definitely keeps the ball from absorbing oil, but there is a cost.
Doc suggested that I hit a pearl ball lightly with scotch brite, then apply the elixer to have it react the way it did before...

NeoTac also has a new product out that's an everyday energizer cleaner type ...
Liquid Nitro......really takes the oil out, and leaves a nice tacky surface!

Heres a little question to add to this subject.
Ive made my own spinner to just clean balls not to polish.
I use clean N dull and one called revolution. I also use a mixture of alchohol and orange oil degreaser.
I usually use the first 2 for my reactives and the latter for spare balls.
I have tried all of them on the reactives at times and have found them all good.
Most of my equiptment is grey scotchbrite about 1000 grit I think.
When I clean them I dont seem to get the really grippy finnish to the balls if you know what i mean. That is they never seem to squeek when you rub your fingers on them.
The only way I can get them to feel slightly reactive is to put a lot of pressure on them when cleaning, and i mean a lot of pressure.
Is that normal for a duller finnish or am i doing something wrong. No one I know has a spinner over this side of the pond so i cant really compare them.
Since i have been putting on more pressure both mine and my misses' balls have become more grippy. Im not sure if they are any cleaner or if they are just becoming a finer finnish of about 1500 grit and all the pressure is giving them a polish up.
I dont know us Brit rookies are pretty dumb I know.
