cleaner to remove polish

as the subject titled.  Before i tr  surface adjustment on m freeze was thinking of removing the polish but leaving the rest of the surface the same...

What cleaner would work for this? --clean & dull?

also different topic..

storm xtr shine thakes a ball to about 3500, so what does the powerhouse factory finish grit out to?

As far as I know, you will have to use an abrasive to get the polish off like Abralon. I would sand with 2000 AB then 4000 AB, if you want a smooth but unpolished surface. You could also use scothbrite gray(800) then gold(2500). There are compounds that could be used also. Like Valentino's Resurrection or Storm Step 1 and Step 2, but you would still have to sand up to a finer level after those. This is what the factories do. I'm not sure what grit Factory Finish takes a ball to. Maybe someone else will chime in.

no cleaner will take "polish" off..... need to use sandpaper or abralon!!

Agree.

The name, "Clean and Dull" is a misnomer, as it does not dull any ball, polished, dull or matte finish.

As for Xtra Shine''''s ability  in finishing a ball to 3500 grit, It can''''t, if you think about it. Look at all the possibilities, for a starting grit level for a ball, anywhere from 220 grit to P4000 grit. Would you really believe that it will change any ball, in that grit range to precisely 3500 grit + polish?? If so, I have a bridge for you.

The grit level specified on any polish is a potential maximum. It depends om some of the following factors:
1. The starting grit level of the ball.
2. How much polish you apply.
3. How hard you press on the ball.
4. How long you spin the ball.

Regarding Ebonite''''s Factopry Finish, again it''''s unknown what the grit level will wind up being. Remember that Ebonite/Hammer/Columbia/Track use it to finish many balls, starting at various grit levels from at least P1000 grit to P4000 grit. See the finish on the Vibes, The Boom, Smash, Bedlam, the Magics, the Burn, The Black Widow Venom, Pure Swing, etc.

Yup, AFAIK no "cleaner" will take the polish off of a ball's surface. You'd have to use some sand paper or sanding pad for a "free" surface, and there are also rubbing compounds available which can give you a glossy surface - but just through abrasives, not through wax.
If you want to do some surface experiments, I'd gently hit the Freeze with a sanding pad under running water, just little pressure and effort - this shoudl quickly take the OOB shine away. Try again and see what happens (for you) on the lane. Surface experiments can be hard to predict, and never be afraid of trying new things

I usually use a white ScotchBrite pad to remove polish, it's got enough bite to take the polish off but not enough to do any significant surface adjustment.  --  JohnP

Been looking for those.. where is a good place to buy them (other than internet). I know the 3M product # is 7445 and the 3M web site is worthless on the where to buy for them.

Cleaner will not remove a polish because a true polish(without additives) does not leave any substance on the surface of the ball.. a polish is just a mixture of super fine grit compounds that bring the surface to a super high shine...
Some used are Aluminum Oxide, Cerium Oxide,Chrome Oxide, Tin Oxide.. more than likely aluminum oxide is in most bowling products as it is the cheapest..

some polishes do contain waxes or other slip agents to reduce hook.. I would say these would be able to be removed with some cleaners but the underlying finish wouldn't be affected.. I would still think the best way would be to take the cover down to 2000 abralon and work it back up as needed..
