cleaners
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:20:33 AM »
Just wondering what the difference is between cleaners that can be used during bowling and ones that cannot be used during bowling but can be used before or after. I just bought some Lanemasters cleaner and noticed on the bottle that it cannot be used during bowling.

I'm not seeing the Legends/Lane Masters cleaner on either list.

Are you saying that is IDENTICAL to Legends Cleaner?

If so, how do you know this?

yes, Duke. I thought they were supposed to submit it for approval. Could be that the USBC just has not gotten around to adding it to the list.

Or does it contain acetone?

It sure is strong smelling?
My wife won't let me use it inthe house without open windows...
says she's worried about my health...I think she can't stand the lingering stink!

I'm about 99% sure that it doesn't. Acetone has a very distintive aroma. I talked to the head/owner of Lanemasters several years ago and he told me that it was specifically industral strength alcohol.

Actually, it cleans bowling balls BETTER than acetone does. There have been several marks on some ball that acetone had a hard time removing (as a test only; I do not use acetone to clean my balls regularly.). Th eLegends cleaners had no problem removing it.

I certainyl hope they submit it for testing soon or the results are published soon.

It definitely has that strong pure alcohol-type aroma. I would only use it in any concentration in the open or near an open window or in a very open area, like a bowling center with a strong circulation fan. I try not to use when I'm near anyone.

It does dissipate rapidly, like all alcohols, so I'm wondering what "lingering stink" she is smelling?

Funny/ironic: what smells good to some people or inoffensive to others, smells bad to yet others. The smell of cooked sweet potatoes makes me want to barf, absolutely nauseating.

It does say on the label "not for use during USBC sanctioned competition". It also says "safe for all bowling balls". I was just wondering why you can use certain cleaners before and after bowling but not during?

I think one reason may be that some cleaners have abrasive in it.

Legends cleaner says "not for use during USBC sanctioned competition", because they, Lanemasters, recognize that it has not yet been approved, for use during competition. It technically does not have to be approved be used outside of competition. Yes, there are cleaners that are never allowed to be used on any bowling balls.

I have been using the Simple Green-Alcohol and water combo for a few years and recently purchased a bottle of Lanemasters cleaner.

The LM product blew the mixture out of the water. The smell is VERY strong.
