Title: Cleaning question

Hi guys I have a question for you.
I did put it on the end of another post, but had no replies so I thought I post my own. It is on the post titled "How much is too much" on this section.
I made my own spinner to clean my balls and I have found that since using it I have to put considerable pressure on the reactive balls to get the sticky, grippy feel on the surface.
I use mostly 1000 grit finish, grey scothbrite. I find that if I dont put extreme pressure then I never get the grippy finish on the balls.
Is it right that you dont get such a sticky finish on sanded balls without polish?
Am I just cleaning them so much that Im just giving them a polish up so not retaining the grey scothbrite finish anymore, that is Im say making it 1500 grit or finer by putting so much pressure on the balls.
I use clean N dull cleaner, one called Revolution and a mixture of orange oil degreaser and alchohol to clean them. I use clean N dull about once a week and the orange oil mixture about twice a week.

From what I can gather, it sounds like you are using excessive force on the gray ScotchBrite pad, and your finish is somewhere well above 1000 grit in texture.  Normally, a 1000 grit scuff with the gray pad will give a dull, hazy semi-polished look to the ball.....if you're getting a polished look, then you are bearing down too hard on the pad.

I guess that this brings up a question....are you looking for a 1000 grit scuffed surface, or are you looking for a polished finish?  If you are looking for a more polished look (and more tacky surface), then you can use the gray pad and then jump up from the 1000 grit scuff to a 2000 grit or so polish, or you can use something like "Renew-It" to get you the polished finish (the Renew-It also gives about a 2000 grit surface).   Letting the Renew-It or whatever put the gloss on the ball for you is a lot easier on the thumbs!

Thanks 10 in the pit, I do seem to like the reaction I get with the slightly polished finish.
Although what I would like to know also is if the ball is 1000 grit would it have a tacky feel to it or would it be smooth but not sticky.
I have only ever used balls that were about 1000 grit before.Now Im finding that with my release is getting better then I like the more polished finish for the oil pattern that we use.
I dont want a high polish, just a bit more length than a dull finish.
I will try to get hold of some Renew-it and give it a try.
