Motiv/Tech-Line's Power Gel is LEGAL!
« on: March 07, 2009, 01:03:48 AM »
Below is my original post. Since then Motiv's ScottHewitt has cleared up the situation with USBC. See his note/reply below:

Unless I missed something along way ...
I guess we're never going to see the polish used to provide the factory shine on Motiv's SX-1 and TX-1 on sale anywhere.

I was just looking at the USBC's approved cleaners and polishes listing,
http://www.bowl.com/specs/ballCleaner.aspx
and there, big as life uner the heading, Commercial Ball Cleaners/Polishes, Not acceptable at any time is
"Power Gel - Tech Line".

How odd!

The finish on my SX-1 could hardly have been described as a shine. It was almost a matte finish. I've already applied a hand coating of Valentino's Snake Oil and will probably apply a spinner coat, in any case.
Great ball, so far, very un-urethane like reaction for me.

I agree, very odd that a company who both manufactures/mixes resin and knows the USBC rules would put out a product which USBC says NO WAY.

MOTIV POWER GEL CLEAN  is on the approved list.

Check the prior to competition list.

New-Tech the parent company does not sell ball cleaners/polishes.

I've sent this thread to Scott Hewitt of Techline to make any comment.  We probably will have to wait until Monday or next week to see any comments made by Techline.

Sorry for the late response.  I contacted the USBC because the Power Gel they had listed as NOT acceptable was a formula submitted to them years back.  The product has been reformulated and is acceptable.  As a matter of fact, I just got an email from the USBC today stating our Power Gel ball cleaner is acceptable anytime.  Power Gel Scuff and Power Gel Clean both went live on our website today.  We will be able to start shipping those items next week.  Power Gel Polish should be available in about 2 weeks.  We've got a few shirts up online now too.
