I am thinking of Emeril Live.

What I have here is a typical Oil filled ball. That's a nice Ball! Put the ball in the oven. Take the oven setting up a notch! BAM! Oil is coming out of the ball. You take a rag and you wipe the ball down. Repeat until oil is gone! When your done. POW! You got a hooking ball!

actually.. i am of the other school of thought here..

why would you put anything ceramic in an oven to bake??  most of you have access to some sort of hot dish washer.. BAM, insta clean ball.. water at 170 degrees works just as good as an oven at 200, and the water cleans it as it goes.. no wiping or putting your hands in a hot oven..

goldfish_iota, I agree with you! I was joking. Some guys put their equipment in the oven. I personally do not. I will wash my bowling equipment in a bucket with hot water and simple green. Sorry, about the previous message. I forgot the

Actually your dishwasher uses water out of your hot water tank. Most of us do not keep our hot water tank at 170 degrees. Hot tap water will definitely burn your or a child's skin badly at that temperature. AND 170 is too close to the temperature where an oven will heat the ball and cause the core to separate as indicated in the article. This is also the reason why if you do put a ball in your wife's or mother's dishwasher, you MUST turn off the drying cycle. The electric heater element will hest the isnide to a much hotter temperature than 170 degrees. This is used to evaporate the left over water.


Most hot wtaer tanks are in the 140 - 160 degree range. 140 degree water is plenty hot enough to remove all the oil (and possibly some plastcicizer, again, as was indicated in the article).

Caution is advised unless you're rich enough to throw away $200 balls in experiments gone wrong.

Hey charlest, I had no idea that dishwashers belong to the woman in the house.  A bit sexist there, eh?

For some strange reason, my hot water heater heats water to about 190 degrees (no chilluns aroun heea), so I'd have to be careful when using the dish... I mean, when using my wife's dishwasher.

hehe.. i knew you were playin around..

 but i didnt even think about the heating elements.. i use the dishwasher at the alley, and its and industreal one, so no heating units.. just alot of water.. glad i was using that one =)

You're beginning to sound like my wife; I had thought you were a male man. I am so unsexist, it's disgusting. However, for the 90% case, the dishwahser is the wife's. I would never assume that that role would be female or male. Notice I said "wife", not "female".

I would never put a ball in that dishwahser!

You really need to adjust that downward; it's a major waste of money and even if the people in your house are used to being careful with the hot water tap, a visitor could get seriously burned.

Totally agree with charlest on who the dishwasher belongs to.
If I put my ball in there my misses would say
" What do you think youre doing putting that in the dishwasher. If you wreck it youre buying ME another"
Not really, I use it more than her.
I also think 140 is perfect for getting oil out as thats how hot Ive been using water for several weeks now. Its really been making a difference.
