Title: Compounds and abrasive polish

I'd like to start experimenting with compound and abrasive polishes on the spinner.

Compound... As in regular auto buffing compound available at the auto store? What grit should I expect to end up with and are there different types?

Abrasive polishes... Would this be = Rough buff? Are there other locally available options or is it best to buy from proshop/online?
