I Scotch Brite all solids to 600-800.

I Scotch Brite all Pearls to 400 and polish first with Ultimate Quick 500 Grit followed by a very very light coat of Columbia 2000 Grit. (about 1/2 teaspoon on each side of ball) I polish fairly hard and then burn it with water to get dust off cover. I used to use Storm Step 2, but it seemed to change the sanding grit too much, By putting on a miminal amount of Columbia 2000 Grit like I do, it doesn't seem to alter the grit.....Works for me.

Yup, and solid reactives generally offer more friction that pearl coverstocks, which will skid longer, especially on dryer conditions.
