Doc's Magic Elixir
« on: September 04, 2004, 02:40:11 AM »
Helo again everyone...
I planned to buy the magic elixir due to the positive
reviews of it. My question is how is it going to be
applied to my bowling balls? I have read somewhere
that the elixir will increase the grit surface of a
bowling ball once it is applied. I am not sure if this
is correct or not. For example, I have
the Ultimate Inferno is box condition (800 grit), if the
elixir is applied to the Ultimate Inferno, does the grit
of the ball changed to a higher grit (1000 grit or more)?
If it does then the ball is no longer in box condition.
Please advise the best way to prepare a coverstock surface
with the elixir.
Thanks.

it DOES not increase the grit surface on the ball. I have been using it over a year now and its great. I put it on with a paper towel..

From my experience, I get maybe 1-2 ft more skid on my Pearl & resin equipment.  My partical equipment doesn't show any change in length.  What I would do is try the ball out on lanes without using the elixer to establish a bench mark.  Then clean the ball, apply the elixer and test the shot again.  If your length increases too much, remove the elixer by taking the original surface down by 1 to 200 grit (ie, 1000 to 800), then reapply the elixer.

Another little trick I learned is after about 30-40 games, just reapply the elixer to the ball track instead of doing the entire ball.  Makes the elixer last a lot longer.

Thanks for the enlightening advice, everyone. I have
ordered the Elixir from Doc's website.
