Title: Cross Hatch sanding technique
Post by: stopncrank on December 02, 2011, 03:17:36 AM
Is there a chart available or maybe someone can explain in laymans terms how to do this? Example, holes up, holes down and so on...

Also, good points and bad points about this sanding process for a higher rev player, and how it works for different strenghts of equipment?

Thanks,

I usually only do 4 sides (6,5,3,4 in the picture above)  but 6 sides is recommended by some.

I also do 4 side just like what back in the game says:

  1. Pin Up
  2. Pin Down
  3. Pin hotizontal with fingerholes pointing up
  4. Pin horizontal with fingerholes pointing down

Cross Hatch sanding
is where the sanding lines are at 90 degrees to each other. It would be like sanding a piece of wood lengthwise and then doing it again crosswise. the point is not to sand the original sanding grooves out the second time, but to create cross groves. You basically are doing the 4 side sanding

Now according to the Bowling Ball Parts and Dynamics (pg: 6-20) manual, you would sand the entire ball parallel to the ball track first. Then rotate the ball 90 degrees to create the cross hatch.

You can see this manual here:
