Polishing a urethane (Liberator) !
« on: August 28, 2008, 01:27:24 AM »
A friend of mine has a Slate Blue Gargoyle, which, has hard as he tried, would not take a polish. He got a hold of some Beans Secret Sauce, and this ws the only thing that polished the urethane. I might have to get some of this for I am having the same issue with my Liberator. Does anyone have tips on getting a good sheen on a Urethane ? I have access to a spinner and a Ebonite resurfacing machine with pads all the way up to 4000 grit. Any tips would be appreciated, the Liberator is actually hooking a little to much for my liking.

I was able to get a nice polished finish on my Liberator, and it really wasn't too difficult. I first took the surface up to 4000 grit Abralon, and then hit the cover with the Secret Sauce. All sanding and polishing were on the spinner.

I'm getting more length and pop on the backend. Give it a shot.

Thanks Steven,

It seems as though the Secret Sauce is the key. I have 4000 pads, I will try to get some of that stuff.

I did a Burgundy Hammer with some Black Magic Plus polish after taking it to 4000 Abralon.
Took for ages to get it to smooth to 4000 but I now have the ultimate spare/light oil ball. I did use quite a bit of the BM+.

Thanks star, all tips are welcome ! The first time I leaned on this baby on the spinner, it did not take polish well. Ill get the abralon pads worked up to 4000, and then try, but I will buy some beans secret on-line first !

I heard back in the day, they use to use lane oil to polish up urethane balls.

I just picked up an old Brunswick urethane 3 piece ball and had success using 360 abralon, 500 abralon, and Storm Step #2 on it to get a nice sheen finish.  If I wanted it glassed I would have moved to polish that contained an abrasive.

I was surprised how well the Storm compound took care of the lines from the abralon.

Could I have went in sequence from 500 to 4000 abralon? Yes, but by using the compound finish like I did I saved wear and tear on the abralon and was done much quicker.

most any polish will work if you take it up to 4000.But before we had abralon pads most of us used good ole old fashion 3m rubbing compound then polished.it gave that luster king high gloss finish.
