Changing the surface won't dramatically change the strength of the ball, but it will change where on the lane you will see the reaction. Higher overall grit will decrease the reaction you will see in oil and increase the reaction you will see in the dry.
You should see a higher surface grit on the ball with 2000+polish than you would with 3000 only. Thus more reaction in dry.
Whether or not this is what you want, that is up to you. Perhaps polish the Lx05 and use a lower grit on the Legacy to separate the two more.
