800 grit + Polish v 2000 Abralon

Thinking of a surface change for my Scorchin..wondering what difference in reaction I could expect between 800 + polish and 2000 abralon?

depends on which polish you use and how much you apply for how long.

There's no set formula.

In general, 800 grit + polish will go longer and flip more and require less oil. 2000 grit should require more oil. But specifics are needed.

Again, thi sis not necessarily true.It depends on how much polish you apply.

For Activator, I'd definitely say that 800 + an average/decent amount of polish will go longer than a 2000 grit matte finish.

Are you sure this is correct?  

I have always thought that a lower grit cover is for heavy oil, And a finer grit is for lighter oil.  Polish will allow the ball to skid further while in the oil, But the base surface will take over when the ball hits the dryer boards.

If I am in the wrong, Please someone, Set me straight.

The base 800 grit cannot take over completely; there is still polish on top of it. 800 grit plus a gritless polish will certainly not go as long and will hook harder than 800 grit plus a polish with grit in it. But there's still polish on it.

800 plus grit less polish can make for an excellent control ball compared to 800 grit plus abrasive polish, which would tend toward more of a skid/flip type of ball reaction.

Activator coverstock is very susceptible to polish; one can almost say it's allergic to polish. Look at the Red ZOne with its high gloss polish compared to the original Ultimate Inferno with a 600 grit sanded finish. Those 2 bals are like night and day. Absolute Inferno went from medium heavy oil handling balls to almost light oil balls when polished.

NOTE that in all of this there's a huge measure of potential variance depending on how much of any polish you apply, grit-free or containing grit. because of that variance none of this is a yes or no, or a black or white situation. There's a lot of gray area involved.

Tried the Scorchin at both...

1) 800 + Brunswick High Gloss...ball had good length, super smooth reaction,good carry.
2) 2000 matte finish...ball went a tad longer than 800 + polish(maybe 2 feet), and had a much sharper (but still very controllable) move. Carry was awesome, pins flying everywhere!

Will definatley be keeping this ball at 2000.
