Thanks to Method noticing a major flaw my final product has been modified and finished. It is now much more efficient.
Any one else make one similar or different post it on here for others to see as well. The more help the better.

Really impressive! As a DIY'er myself, might have to put this to the test. did you maybe consider a towel or pillow case on the inside of the bucket to catch oil?
-
Decided to just wipe down periodically as I went. After reading the link info from Brunswick R&D I figured that would be best.

I love this. Are you sanding the balls you're extracting the oil from to open the pores of the ball?
-
Yes. I hit them with 360. Then bake, then 500 followed by either polish or more sanding depending on the ball.
-
Why the need for both the 5 gallon bucket and the plastic bin? Wouldn't one or the other work as well ? Thank you . Great idea!!!! :)
-
The last version I made doesn't require the 5 gallon bucket. You mount the lid of the dehydrator to the lid of the rubber bin.
When the dehydrator lid is on the 5 gallon bucket the hot air is being blown down the outside of the bucket which is why you add holes to the bucket. The bucket is also used as an option to hold the lid inside the rubber bin instead of trying to undermount the lid to the rubber bin.

Mine is similar and works very well. I just used the trays that came with the dehydrator and also bought an extra set, 8 trays total. Then I cut the insides out of each tray (very easy to do) and then use it as is. I can either just take the top off, or take the entire stack off to access the ball, which is sitting on 4 wooden balls in a "Dollar Store" tray. I'm using an old digital thermometer that I had laying around. All up, I've got about $85 dollars in it. It's definitely a bargain. Here are several pictures of it as I'm de-oiling my wife's Crossroads. Check out the oil on the ball.

Niiiice
-
I like that!
-
Is there a need to have the ball rotate or no?
-
No need to rotate when it is in an oven. If you had a microfiber towel in the unit that rubbed against the ball then having it rotate would be good for getting the oil off.
I check it every 15-30 mins for the first hour then every 30 min after that to wipe off oil and keep going.
-
That's what I do too. I spray some ball cleaner on a paper towel and wipe the ball off and put it back in. Repeat until it's done.
-
I will attest to the model like kidlost2000 did as I made one just like it. Cant beat it for less than $100 and it does 2 Balls at a time ;) Great Idea
-
Glad to hear.
-
2 balls at a time. That's awesome.
-
Going to start working on one for myself based off the bin type. Using a Nesco FD-80 I already own. If it comes out any different from the first one posted here, I'll post pics. But right now I'm planning on using the exact same method. Sandwich the bin lid in between the pieces of the Nesco lid.
Thank you so much for posting this. Would have never thought of trying it.
-
Very cool. Best of luck
-
Got it right on the 2nd try. Stupid me for not checking what size hole I was cutting in the lid. Made it too big. Dropped my only blade to my scroll saw as well. It bounced sonewhere on thr dsrk carpeted floor. Couldn't find it. Ended up using a saws all blade by hand. Wrapped a rag around it. Worked remarkably well.
Mine is being tested as I type. Old ball that we don't have a used for and isn't worth giving away. Used the same method as kidlost2000. Only issue is my temp selector knob doesn't reach it's post anymore. Not too bad. It's notched and can be turned by screwdriver. Easy to know the temp as the notch lines up. Honestly prevents me from hitting it by accident and changing the temp.

Thought I'd update after having time to play. This thing works wonders. The oil coming out of my son's IQ Tour is amazing. I've had to wipe every 10 minutes max for the first 5 times. This is with me hand cleaning it after each session he bowls.
Thanks again for the idea and how to info.
Now to convert my drill press to a ball spinner :)
-
very awesome
-
Does the ball eventually stop sweating oil 100%? How long and how many wipe downs does the average ball take?
-
Yes it will stop. I've not gone over two hours and it was just as a test. There is no average. Just check every 15-20 minutes till there's no oil then you are done. Usually an hour tops

Thanks. Will have to give this a try.

Great thread, thanks to Kidlost for posting this. I used the Nesco dehidrater and just bought the 4 extra trays, cut the centers out and it works great!
-
Just put mine together last night. For $45 it cant be beat! Found that the clamp on top seals everything up nicely. The model dehydrator I had had some plastic that I needed to cut off (thank you rotozip) Can get it up to 150* so I have to get a more accurate probe thermometer. Thanks again for the idea!

Awesome job.
I've not got much oil out of my bowling equipment because most are polished and most have less then ten games. I did clean one for my brothers the other day that really appeared to lose its reaction on the lanes. Hit the ball with 360grit to open up the pores and into the oven the ball went.
Checked on the ball after 15 minutes and it was soaked in oil. This went on for over an hour. Checked every 15-20 minutes and wiped the ball off. Took a couple pics of it towards the end where it was starting to stop sweating so much. At an 1 hour 45 minutes it was done. Let it go another 15-20 minutes just to make sure. Was very happy to see how well it worked on a ball that really needed it.
