I just learned something that disturbed me more than a little bit about using Simple Green on any balls of mine, from now on.

I got lazy and washed my car yesterday with one of those washes with wax on it. Everything went well until the sun came out and dried it too quickly. I found spots on the windows that window cleaner wouldn't get off. So I went to my Simple Green and Bounty towels, a great cleaning arsenal. It got the wax spots off the car quickly, with a little "elbow grease". HOWEVER, I noticed a residue that was almost greasy, left on the windows, even after much wiping with Bounty. Now I had to take the window cleaner itself and clean the Simple Green off the windows.

Since SG leaves this greasy film on a non-porous surface like glass, I don't even like contemplating what might or might not happen to the pores of a resin bowling balls, when SG is used. While it's a great household and automotive degreaser and general cleaner, I think I'll stick, as I have said so very many times before, with cleaners made for the application in mind - bowling balls!

If you insist on being cheap, a word or two of caution is urged, most strenuously.

I used some orange hand cleaner (kind you get at an automotive store) and a green scotch brite the other day.  I had already taken the ball down to 400 grit and then tossed it in the lustre king.  The lustre king shine was starting to fade, and the hand cleaner seemed to remove the rest completely.

I figured that hand cleaner stuff does a pretty good job of cleaning grease off of hands that it would be okay on a bowling ball.  Didn't notice any "bad" after effects while bowling today.

Not something I'll do all the time, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

for the past couple of years i've used a mixture of simple green, water, and alcohol, and haven't noticed any film or residue on the ball(s). what i have noticed is that the surface of the ball( if it's polished )is squeeky clean to the touch. dull balls are just clean. as good as this mixture is it doesn't get all the grime off the ball. for those stubborn marks and stains tenth frame products ultra clean hasn't failed yet.
