Title: Dull a plastic?
Post by: scizzo on January 29, 2010, 12:57:57 AM
This may be a crazy question, but I was wondering if you can dull a plastic ball.  I didn't know if you started sanding a plastic if it would take the color off the ball or if it would even work.  Im just looking for a ball to use in dry conditions and thought I might could get away with just a plastic ball and hit the coverstock with a 2000 grit pad.  I can throw a plastic now on the conditions, but I'm looking for something just a little more aggressive.  I feel if I go up to a reactive or urethane it may be too big of a jump.

Thanks

Most spare balls will not take off the color if you sand it. Just visaballs. It will get you a little more traction. I have never done it but it should work.

Sure, you can sand a plastic ball and unless it's a Vis-a-ball it won't hurt it.  It will make the ball break more and earlier, just like any other ball.  --  JohnP

As I recall, one pro did JUST that for a qualifying round at the US Open a few years back...and as I recall, Richie Allen fared quite well by having done so.

Thanks for the answers.  I thought that was right, just wanted to double check.  Thanks again.

A friend of mine has his blue dot at 4000 abralon. That ball is money on dry lanes.
