I am experimenting with Doc's Elixir again. For some time I have used a single coat of the Elixir over 800 and 2000 grit sanded covers. In direct comparison with the Secret Sauce, using 1 coat of the elixir, I have found no real difference in ball reaction when using the same ball resurfaced to the same grit, and buffing with a spinner.
A couple of days ago I applied the elixir to two of my older balls - a Big Rig Diesel, and a SR300, both with fresh 2000 grit surfaces that had been allowed to dry for 2 days. I was surprised to see the elixir bead up in patches on the surface of the Diesel. This is an older ball that has had several surface adjustments. The pores should be open. I had thought that this was a solid reactive, but I am wondering if this is a hybrid cover. The elixir did not bead up on the SR300. I thought about abandoning the use of the elixir on this ball, but I was curious, so I waited a bit and reapplied, and again, until the ball was obviously coated. Waited 20 minutes and hand buffed - no good - I took it to the spinner. Using cotton terry I buffed to medium heat. Now the ball has a very nice silky smooth/tacky finish - it reminds me of the way a new Power Groove feels. This caused me to put an additional coat on the SR300. The SR300 has a higher shine and greater tack than the Diesel. The underlying grit is visible on both balls.
I expect to try both balls an a fresh house shot this Tuesday evening.
