Final Grit

This might be subjective to spinner time and pressure but I'll ask anyways.  What grit will rubbing compounds finish a ball to?  To me, they look like light polishes but since they have abrasives in them as well, I was wondering if anyone had some ideas as to what the end result would be(i.e. 1500 polished).  Assume a starting underlying grit of somewhere between 220 and 400.

Depends on the rubbing compound itself (it has a grit that come sthrough the adrasives' size and material) and the base grit. Hard to tell - and IMHO you get also a different surface texture than through a sanded or polished surface.
Rough Buff is a good example - it is recommended to use a 220 grit base, and when you apply RB you get something that looks to me 4.000-2.000 Abralon. But the ball behaves differently, because you do not have the sharp Abralon sanding lines that bite quite well on the lane, rather a smoothed out "hill and valley" landscape that has less bite/more length in the oily front part of the lane - at least, that's my experience.

Other than Rough Buff, many of them, without undue pressure, seem to be around 1000 grit (US, my guess) plus a light shine. Some examples are Track's Clean and Sheen. Ultimate's Quick Kut and Polish. Lanemasters has a Surface Cutting compound that indicates a finish of 1200 grit (haven't tried it yet).
Valentino's Resurrection is about 800 grit (US, my guess) plus a light shine.
