Since it seems to have some oily substance in it or as part of its make-up,
I would be inclined to not even try it on any of my own bowling balls.
After all we're essentially trying to keep oil out of them.

Here's the link to the USBC list of approved cleaners and polishes, I don't know why they make it so hard to find. Goo Gone used to be on the list but I don't find it now. That doesn't make much difference since it's not good for cleaning balls anyway. What it is good for is cleaning tape residue from thumbholes, and since that's not on the surface of the ball it can still be used. I follow the Goo Gone with a wipedown of the hole with rubbing alcohol to remove the final residue. -- JohnP
FYI...being a clubmaker, I find the best use for Goo Gone is as John said removing tape residue. When I am re-gripping and want to start with a clean fresh shaft butt I use Goo Gone to remove all tape residue.
