Post by: Moon57 on December 30, 2006, 09:42:34 AM
Found a good price on abralon pads at http://www.woodworkersshop.com/Abralon_Sanding_System.htm

5 6" pads-360, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 grit for 19.95, That's the cheapest I've seen them.

I recall reading that somebody on this board was selling them for $3 a pad. I forgot which member to PM for that. Anybody?

gilaz33 on this site is where I get mine from. Message him.

Also Speciality tools @ $2.90 each, but I can't find out how to find the shipping charges without filling out all of the credit card information and etc.

I've never seen them in the automotive shops. Will look next time I go to one.
Greg, is it a local shop or a chain shop that has them?

Yeah, everyone likes to build a profit margin in shipping these days. If you cant find any at your local parts store, there HAS to be a paint and supply store to cover your body shops. We have 5 parts stores and one paint and supply store in town. I can get Mirka abrasives at 3 of them. Everyone seems to think Abralon is something new in the bowling world when in reality it has been used for surfacing auto paints and woodworking for a number of years. We even have a Sherwin williams store that carries it. Unless you have a one horse town i'm sure you can find it without being raped on shipping. Mirka is one of the biggest names in automotive surface prep.

On edit: THIS (http://"http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mirka-6-Sandpaper-Abralon-Polishing-Discs-5-pack_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63702QQihZ002QQitemZ4524891433QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V")  is even better than those other places listed.

Funny thing is, my brother-in-law does auto body repair.  When I asked if he could get me some abralon, he had no idea what I was talking about!

In his defense, he is the metal and body guy, he doesn't touch any paint!  And, they were a pretty busy shop. I think he recently went independent and opened his own shop - I'm going to have to give him a call and see if he can get some.
