Anybody had any problems with hard water deposits adhering to the surface of your b. balls after a hot water bath ? If so, notice any loss of reaction/oil-absorption ? I did. Anyone know what works to remove the hard water deposits ?

Are you sure you're seeing hard water deposits? Some balls change color, lightening to a degree, after a hot water bath. This is called phasing, and will return to normal after a time. If it really is hard water deposit, some vinegar and elbow grease should take it off. -- JohnP

Yeah, I see a whitish film on the coverstock, and when I bowl with it on oil the ball comes back with not oil rings on the flares but just smooth rings in the whitish film. And, the ball just never bites in the oil I have to get way outside on the dry for the ball to hook.

I will try some vinegar though. That should not harm the coverstock.

When soaking bowling balls there are a few companies that warn against using hot soapy water due to an emulsion that happens with the soap and oil. This emulsion, once in a ball, can make it pretty much useless...
Another tip... be sure the ball has a couple days to completely dry out before using it.

I think I have an idea what you're talking about. However, from my experiences, it only seems to happen to Brunswick equipment. The only two balls I've had this happen to are an Ultimate Inferno and my Fury Pearl. I've put Ebonite equipment, Hammer equipment, Columbia equipment, and Track equipment in the sink for hot water baths with no problems whatsoever.
What I notice with Brunswick equipment is the balls, after undergoing hot water baths, come out with a white film in random patches all over the surface. The phasing phenomenon seems like a viable reason, but the white film disappears if scratched with a fingernail, leading me to believe it's something physically on the surface. I usually clean the ball with rubbing alcohol to get rid of the film.
At first, I thought this was an isolated phenomenon, but it seems other people are running into this problem. I'd be curious to know if the people that have this problem (i.e. Bowlin for Beer) are seeing it happen to Brunswick equipment only.

Sorry, been away.
I tried the vinegar, but cut it with 91% rubbing alcohol. It took the film/deposits off and the ball are reacting fine.
