I know this topic has been beaten to death plenty of times, but I was looking at the polish I use on my pickup and it looks as if it would be okay to use on bowling balls. It's Turtle Wax Premium Grade Polishing Compound. It says it has no silicone, but nothing about wax.

The back says it "is a fine cut compound designed to remove light swirl marks, minor scratches, and light oxidation while restoring color and gloss to your car's finish. It's formulated with professional grade Nanotechnology polishing agents and lubricating oils to produce flawless clarity and shine to your car's finish. Turtle Wax Polishing Compound is silicone free and is safe for use on all clear coat and conventional finishes."

This sounds like it would be okay since it will not damage anything, but I wanted some more experienced bowlers' input before I tried it out. Please let me know what you may think. Thanks

Even though it says polishing compound, if it also says wax, I'd assume it would clog the ball's pores and basically make it a spare ball.

It is difficult to know if this particular polish will be good for bowling balls. Several of the 3M Professional polishes such as Finesse-it II, contain no wax or silicone. Finesse-It was used by Columbia several years ago, and may be what today's ball specific polishes are derived from.

I would worry about anything sold as a "final finishing" product at the retail level, they are likely to contain some type of wax or shine agent that may clog the pores.

Just pony up a few bucks and get a good product from any of the manufacturers or Valentino and remove all doubt. Finesse it II is a good compound. If you insist on using the car polish, use it on plastic.

That's exactly what I was thinking too with the final step. The directions say to add wax after this compound, so I assume this is not the final step in the polishing/waxing process. I'll try it out on an old ball. If nothing changes, I think I may have found something that works.

I like reacta-clean that storm puts out, but I was just curious about if/how this would work. It feels and smells very similar so I thought I might ask. Also, I have looked for the finesse-it, but I can't find it anywhere in town.

Basically, it a light grit compound (no wax). Many Pro Shops use this to remove fine scratches on a ball after its been plugged. So, if you want to remove some light scratches from your equipment, it should work just fine, but afterwardes, you should use the proper abralon pads and polish to bring it back to box condition or the condition you are looking for.

I turtle-waxed a MoRich Shock and Awe once... gave it a really nice mirror finish, and still worked great out on the lanes... shot 300 with it actually, lol

Is this the stuff that comes in the round tub (green lid) - compound itself is white? If so it should be fine. I know they also make a rubbing compound - red lid and compound is red-brownish color. Either of these are fine for bowling balls. My buddy had a pro shop and used them whenever he ran out of "real" bowling polish. They both have grit, with the polishing compound having a higher grit level (less abrasive) to remove those swirl marks. I have no idea as to the grit level, but if I had to guess I'd say it is at least 2000.

Just did quick search and looks like they have a paste and a "premium" in a squirt bottle. I was referring to the paste, but I imagine the squirt bottle isn't much different.

It is the squirt bottle. I have used both on my truck and the only difference is that the squirt bottle is liquid and the paste is obviously not. I get the same results on my truck, so I get the liquid because it's easier.

I used the stuff on a Track Power Machine today and the ball reacted the same as when I use Reacta-clean, so I think I have found an easy replacement for when I don't have any polish around. Even the tackiness and sheen are the same, so if it works, I guess I'll use it. Thanks for all of your input.

you can go to an autobody paint and supply house for the 3m products, such as finesse it 11, they sell in qrts and gallons,its a little expensive but you dont use a lot at a time and even the qrt last a long time,
