Inferno - what final abralon grit before polish and which polish
« on: December 18, 2008, 11:46:14 PM »
Picked up a original PBA Inferno, and I'm curious what you all would think would be the best way tp prep the surface for a THS medium oil shot.  After resurfacing I've currently got it at 1000 abralon.  Should I go to 2000 or even 4000 before polishing? (I'm a stroker with medium revs and typically throw a down and in shot at about 16 mph).  I also have the choice of polishing with Ebonite's Factory finish, Valentino's Snake Oil, and/or Storm's Reacta-Shine.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Knowing how you throw the ball (and it isn't all that unlike how I throw it really), you probably will be better served with a lower grit finish under the polish.  Try 1000 abralon and a nice coat of Snake Oil and see how you like it.  If it rolls too early, you can always change the surface to a higher grit.

Which PBA inferno? Solid Activator (green) or Activator Max (black/white)?

For solid, I would start with worn 500 or a fresh 1000 abralon. For activator max, I find a bit smoother underlaying grits work better. Fresh 2000 or worn 1000 abralon would be good starting point.

I prefer Snake Oil on everything when I need polish lately..

I'd also go with a finer base grit, 1.000 grit as it is sounds fine for me, even though you might adjust after trials if necessary. I found that the recommended 400 grit base plus Brunswick's High Gloss polish does not yield a very good recation for me on any ball I tried it (I have med revs and med to low speed, see profile, pls.). Best finish for me so far for glossy balls is 2.000 Abralon plus polish - but I tend to seek length because of my style.

Actually it's the red PBA ball given out at some Brunswick event.  Doesn't even say Inferno on the ball, just was told it's the same core and coverstock as the Original Inferno.

I'll try it at 1000 and polish it with Snake Oil.  Thanks, Gents!

The red PBA Inferno was the Original Inferno and it was 400Grit and polished from the factory.
