Hey surface gurus. Lately I've been using these polishes and enjoying the results.

Ebonite Magic Shine (http://www.bowling.com/products/ebonite-powerhouse-magic-shine-quart.htm) and Brunswick high Gloss (http://www.bowling.com/products/brunswick-factory-finish-high-gloss-polish-32-oz.htm).

I find that Magic Shine gives my ball a good length and a hard but controllable backend motion. The High Gloss gives my gear longer length with a very hard backend motion, sometimes a bit much for me.

I was wondering what your experiences are with these polishes? Also, are both of these non-abrasive polishes? I am assuming they are, but would like to make sure.

I plan on giving Snake Oil a shot the next time I polish my gear. What can I expect from this compared to the Magic Shine/High Gloss?

I'm not sure if Magic Shine is the same as when Track marketed it. If it is, I was never fond of it mostly because it dried while the ball was still spinning and it was very hard to remove with the buffing cloth. I kind of prefer Powerhouse's own Factory Finish polish, which seems less abrasive.

I've used Brunswick High Gloss polish a bit and I kind of like it. Keep in mind that B'wick recommends some fairly low grit levels when appyling it. I used to think it was a non-abrasive, but now I know better. That might account for its extra length: you're really changing the underlying grit level quite a bit, in my opinion. But it does seem to work well with lower grit levels (320, 400 and 600 grit).

For me, Magic Shine does seem to dry quickly but it gets a luster on the ball rather quickly.

That makes sense regarding High Gloss having abrasive. I tried it on a ball I sanded to 1000 Abralon and it worked well. Then I tried it on that same ball but this time sanded to 2000 Abralon and the difference was extreme. Since that experiment, I've been polishing most gear I need polished with 1000 + High Gloss and I get a good look.

Is Snake Oil a non-abrasive polish? If not, what would be a good non-abrasive polish for balls?

Snake Oil is non-abrasive.

I usually recommend an 800 grit surface (or Resurrection) before applying Snake Oil if you want a controllable midlane with a snappy backend.

If you need a longer midlane skid and a smooth snap to the pocket I suggest a 1500 grit surface before applying Snake Oil.

Snake Oil is my favorite non-abrasive polish. It is excellent.

On a bit of an aside: what is this Valentino UFO Extender polish? I've seen other "extender" polishes, but I have no idea what they are compared to other polishes.

UFO and Neo-Tac's Control-It and Powerhouse's Delayed Reaction are polishes that contain a slip agent. It reduces the overall hook and reduces the backend, allowing you to use the same ball on much drier lanes and lanes with longer, cleaner backends.

They need to be removed with abrasive, whenyou want to restore the ball to its normal functionality. It takes only a very light abrasive to remove UFO. When I remove the others I take them down to 400 grit US/CAMI. Control-It requires at least 2 coats and a long wait between then. UFO and Delayed Reaction go on like normal polishes.

Huh. Now that is neat actually. I may get some of this stuff for when I know I'll be on dryer lanes to help me keep in my comfort zone.

Which of those 3 extender polishes would you recommend Charlest?

I like UFO and have been using it a bunch. Easier on, easier off and it does the job well. I know people who have used it on their plastic ball. Kind of a waste as polyester does not absorb oil to help it hook.

I have used Delayed Reaction and like its performance also. I prefer UFO at this point.

Need a new supply of everything after today.

I did up two balls for league tonight. One is 1000 Abralon + Snake Oil, and the other was 1000 Abralon + Bean's Sauce. I found a bottle of Bean's lying around and decided to use what was left. The Snake Oil gave a nice shine to the ball, but it took a little bit of finesse to get it to shine up. The Bean's was like putting a mirror sticker on my ball...Unbelievable how easily it went on.

I look forward to seeing how they react compared to other polishes. I liked how non-messy these polishes were. They seemed less gooey compared to the other polishes, and came out of my finger/thumb holes very easily. The other polishes I have takes forever to get off my finger lifts.

That Sure Fire I sold you had Snake Oil on it. Not sure if you changed surfaces on it before you threw it if not that was Resurrection followed by the Snake Oil.

Initial judgments:

Gravity Shift at 1000 Abralon with Snake Oil over that: The conditions I bowled on were very similar to this time last week. Compared to last week (ball at 1000 Abralon + Magic Shine), the ball read the midlane earlier and had a good pop in the back. I was standing about 2 boards left and looking 1 board left compared to last week. But what really got me was how it moved to the pocket. It was a very pronounced move, but it wasn't a SNAP like the Magic Shine did. It was much more predictable IMO.

But, to be honest, the mids were a toooouch strong for what I want, so I'm going to try putting a second and much lighter coat of Snake Oil on top just to see if I can create that extra few feet of skid in the midlane but still retain that great motion it had to the pocket.

Paradigm Passion at 1000 Abralon with Beans: This ball has always been sanded for me, but as time went on the ball has shown signs of fatigue. So I figured now that I have some great sanded solids that are newer, I can use this to fill a "weaker sanded" gap in my arsenal. That said, I took this ball to the lane tonight. I stood 3 boards right and looked 2 boards right compared to my Gravity Shift, which is exactly what I wanted the ball to do. The ball got through the heads easily and read the mids well, with a very pronounced move to the pocket. I liked it a lot.

I shall report more once I get some more games on each ball with these new surface preparations.
