According to that, the OOB on that ball is a 1500 grit. Try taking it to 1500 grit without the polish. If that doesn't work, just go a bit more coarse until you get what you're looking for.
P.S. Is the hit dead because it's burning up? Or is it because the ball isn't hooking?

well after you resuface a ball it won't do what you want until you start burning a track in it a little bit, use it a few games and see what happens, or tweak the cover

What did you use to get it to 1000 grit?
If you used sandpaper that may be the problem.
Higher grits of sandpaper are made from silicon carbide which is harder than the particles in most coverstocks, and when used it breaks the particles down rendering them much less affective.
What I recommend is to redo it using scotchbrite pads I would hit it with a maroon (320) which will reactivate the particles cause the scotchbrite will remove the cover base but not the particles. Then use a green (600) and gray (1000) then finish it off with Track Clean and Smooth or a quick cut rubbing compound like Meguier's Heavy Cut.
