Kwik Patch Kit
« on: September 14, 2006, 03:29:22 AM »
Has anyone used these kits?  First night out this year one of my balls took a 3" long and 1/4" deep whack just to the left of my middle finger right in track.  I was given this as a suggestion.

Any info would be great about these kits or other ideas.

Thanks,
Jeff

The pro shop at the lanes where the ball was damaged should repair it at no charge.  --  JohnP

The bowling alley does not have a pro shop and I am the one who ends up with the resurfacing of damaged balls.  If I were to sand this ball down, I would be taking off a good portion of the cover.  I would not worry about it if it were in a diferent location.

Anyone else...any pro shop used it or anyone had it done to a ball???

Thanks again,
Jeff

I have used Kwik Patch.  It's OK, but don't try to rush it too much.  It takes several hours to set up.  With that big a scratch, I'd put it on half the scratch, then come back the next day and put it on the other half.  Then give that a day to cure before working it out.  Another option, if you've already got plug materials, is to mix up a small quantity and let it set in the mix cup until it starts to set up.  When it gets quite stiff, use a spatula to smear it into the crack, then let it set up completely.  I've never done this myself, but it was demonstrated in the pro shop class I took.  --  JohnP

JohnP,

Thank you for the information.

One person told me to use the Kwik Patch kit, but, instead of using the filler to use their Super Bond Glue then use the Accelerator, from the kit and it would work better.

Thanks again,
Jeff

if you plug balls, just dam around the area and use a small portion of plugging coumpound. The compound I use takes about 3 hrs to harden then shave it down, sand it flush.

Also, before plugging, consider using the router to rout out the scratch.

Did you note the length of the scratch?  To pour plug in a dam around a 3" long scratch is going to take quite a bit of plug material (remember, the ball's surface is curved).  --JohnP

You plug it in two sessions, using clay to block the plug from running down the scratch.
