No Mercy Whup'n... too strong after use??
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:01:19 AM »
When I first got my No Mercy Whup'n the thing was lights out... I recently haven't been using it because it just didn't have the backend that it had when I first got it.  I had brought the cover back to a grit and polish that I was using when it was working and it still didn't perform well.  Thought maybe too much oil got into it so I did an extensive de-oiling with a dishwasher and bucket technique.
I tried it out again yesterday and really watched the roll compared to my other equipment and it looks like the ball just dies and loses alot revs and rotation the instant it hits the lane..  I have the ball at 500/4000 abralon with xtra shine polish.  I'm just guessing that it is too strong as my weaker equipment is keeping its revs down the lane and having more backend.  Even my 1000 abralon sidewinder seems to get down the lane and keep it rotation better..

anybody have any ideas what could be going on... I may have been seeing more oil  in the summer when it was working.. I'm not sure though..

Sounds like it's not getting through the heads, which is an indication that you don't have enough volume up front.

Second that. Do you use the ball just in one house, or does it show this poor performance in other houses, too?
Just to be sure, I'd hit the ball with polish and try it again, just to see if early traction and/or lack of head oil is the problem source.

I see the same thing at 3 different houses I bowl... They all tend to be on the medium to light in regards to oil volume. I'm gonna really hit it with more polish  and shine it up to see if that helps the problem.  I have some super fine micron polish and also snake oil I may try one or the other...

Tonight I took my ball to 2000, 1000, 500 then back up 500, 1000, 2000, 4000.. then hit it with some .5 micron polish and then hit it with some snake oil.
Seemed to do the trick.. the ball got down the lane with rotation and had some backend.. once the ball got a track in it, it seemed it would hook from anywhere..
as long as I threw it correctly.. I always forget that part...
If I got it outside early it seemed like it still wanted to roll out..

used it again tonight at a different house.. known for being dryer and it still worked great.. got down the lane but just a little smoother on the backend at the breakpoint..
gonna try it again tomorrow at a different house and see if I can go 3 for 3 and consider it fixed..

I'm glad it's doing what you want, but since you already have weaker equipment that will work on the same condition, why go to extraordinary measures to practically kill a strong ball that could otherwise fit in it's intended place in your arsenal?

I understand what you are saying.. Like everyone I''''d like to use the newest Oiler super hook monster but I''''m just now learning that weaker equipment seems to work for me around here.  Maybe there just isn''''t enough oil but even when I do see oily lanes my stronger or duller equipment doesn''''t seem to move or give me any advantage.. for me stronger and duller equipment doesn''''t hook any more.. it''''s just smoother with less backend for some reason.. so basically I just use the ball that gets me the backend I need to get to the pocket and carry.. If it is too snappy I go up to a stronger ball.. if its too smooth I go to a weaker ball.. I do have some balls in the weak and strong category that are smoother or snappier but for the most part that is how I decide what ball to use.

It seems to be working as it did OOB.. it seemed pretty versatile and I was able to use it on a lot of conditions I''''m not sure what the ball was OOB as it was never really released in the US.  Can''''t find any specs on it.
