Question on surface grit
« on: November 25, 2008, 02:19:03 AM »
Ok i want to delay the reaction of my ogre pearl but not increase the backend reaction. The ball by nature is a smooth arc but is a lil too similar to my messenger. If a take the surface up to 4000 with polish the length will increase but will it still remaing smooth and archy cause of the core?

Not under normal circumstances, as far as I have seen with many balls.

Most times, the backend will increase as you increase the length, WHat you could try is using Track's Delayed Reaction instead of normal polish, but you have to be careful and use VERY light hand application. DR increases length AND reduces the backend by means of what is called a slip agent. So you'll get less backend if you apply a very light amount. If you apply too much DR, you have to sand it off and start over.

On the other hand, remember that sanding it to 4000 grit Abralon will also make it handle less oil. So there is that trde-off, too.

I think the safest way to change the ball is to re-drill it with a longer pin to PAP, but that will also make it go longer and flare less, also covering/handling slightly less oil.

I think the bestway to use the ball to get more length is move deeper or change hand posiiton or ball speed.

Similar to DR. Be careful use just a little and test the ball's reaction. Only then, use more. Do follow the directions.

Good luck.

How about a flare-reducing balance hole (above the PAP), if surface changes fail due to the tendency to emphasize the backend with more leghth through polish? At least, that would not make re-drilling the piece necessary?

I put delayed reaction on my World class particle to play the house shot, and it worked very well. It has a lot of control but still hits. I plan on changing it back to box condition for tournaments next year. Try that before you put more holes in your bowling ball.
