And one thing you've also got to remember that the MASS CHAOS and REV are both Columbia Particle Coverstock's, too! Which is a silica based particle cover, and basically it's got little GLASS bubbles in it and once they break, then that's it! Some say that it's impossible to bring that kind of coverstock back to life! But both of mine are BACK!!!
I've heard several guys say that it didn't work on their Columbia coverstock's... but for some reason both of these balls are back as STRONG as ever!
When I first got the Reaction REV (at the request of my good friend LuckyLefty), it had an extremely SHARP backend and after 75-80 games the thing didn't want to hook much... even if the backends were strong. I never had the ball resurfaced during that 75-85 game life span, until I did it with the actual Hook Again process.
Here's what I did:
1.) Sanded ball lightly to 400 grit just to take the polish off before I put it in.
2.) Put the Reaction REV in the HOOK AGAIN for 36 hours, with the Mass Chaos it was just for 30 hours (instead of 24 like Ebonite says).
3.) Cleaned the ball off with Track's Clean N' Dull.
4.) I sanded it down with 320 grit SCOTCHBRITE to remove most of the track, then 600, then 800.
4.) I polished the ball with Ebonite's own "PARTICLE Polish" on 4 sides of the ball - this "polishing" step is VER Important because it removes the broken particles from the ball like Ebonite says (they told me that their own "PARTICLE Polish" was the best for removing the broken particle's from a ball than other polishes on the market. Their Powerhouse "Particle Polish" has micro-fine cutting agents suspended within the polish that are designed to "scrub" those particle fragments out of the ball's surface, exposing the reactive resin surface to the lane).
5.) I then used some a different brand of polish to get it to my desired finish which was about 2500-3000.
Ebonite claims that "plasticizers" are what makes a ball loose it's backend hook.. and NOT oil build-up. I think I may agree!
For those of you that have tried this stuff, and it DIDN'T work... what was your WHOLE complete process, step for step?
