Base grit awesome finish

What is the base grit before polish on a MoRich Awesome Finish?

Morich uses the standard Brunswick finishes according to their Resurfacing page.  The Awesome Finish is 400-grit plus High Gloss polish.

I have also read that the coverstock preparation for the Awesome Finish is 220 grit base, then an application of Brunswick Rough Buff, and finished with Brunswick High Gloss polish.

I read the Mo Page and they list both standard and Brunswick resurfacing it looks too glossy to be just 400 and polish.

Of course I am a bit of a moron

I'm inclined to agree that it looks much shinier than 400-grit polished would suggest.  I've seen Brunswick balls with that finish and they do not look nearly so highly polished.

Also the AF, which uses PK 18 solid, seems to be much weaker than such a finish used on OK 18 would indicate. With an RG of 2.48 and an RG Diff of .048 and solid PK 18 coverstock, the AF's finish MUST be much glossier and sanded much finer than 400 + High Gloss polish. Too many average rev bowlers can barely use this ball on medium oil.

That's correct, and it explains why I had so much difficulties with mine in OOB condition. The ball was very squirty, uncontrollable at the break point. Wnet evry long (as intended), but did not recover well.
Then I experimented with 2.000 Abralon + HG polish, 4.000 Abralon sheen (which offered much better contriol but made tha ball read the lane about 5-6' earlier!) and finally with 3M's Finesse It II Trizact compound, which leaves a kind of high gloss surface without surface - very good length through the heads, but tackier than polish so that it would read the lane more consistently when touching dry ground and only slightly earlier than OOB. Since then, the ball has become a force to count on on medium conditions. Only when the heads break away, I need to bag the AFi, because its low RG bleeds energy really fast (but also revs up quickly when you get it down the lane).
