Lane Masters Cleaner - an observation
« on: November 10, 2008, 12:39:42 AM »
I seldom use my Lane Masters Cleaner because of the obnoxious (to me) smell.  But the other night after I cleaned my Red Zone with Energizer cleaner I noticed some belt dressing still on the ball.  The Lane Masters was close at hand so I grabbed it, sprayed some on a paper towel and spot cleaned.  The belt dressing came right off, but some red color came off with it.  That's some strong stuff!  I immediately washed my hands, but they still stunk an hour later.  --  JohnP

I think it is rather a ball than cleaner phenomenon - my NS2 "loses" lots of color every time I clean it! I use Ebonite's cleaner or a professional plastic cleaner (for window frames, with additives to avoid plastic becoming brittle through bleaching and softener loss) for everyday cleaning after training, as well as LM's cleaner for tough stains (it really gets everything off, more than you'd expect...). And every time I clean the ball (I use a white cotton cloth) I find gold/black material - not only dirt. I am a bit worried, but so far the ball does neither seem to suffer nor lose performance...

John, I had a Brunswick Absolute Inferno that did the same thing. Everytime I cleaned it with Lanemasters Cleaner, color came off on my towel. I too don't use it because of the smell being overwhelming unless it is an extreme sututation like your example here.

I now use Remedy RX Cleaner. I haven't had an opportunity to see what it will do in a situtation like you had here, but I've heard it will clean the belt dressing off like Lanemasters does. The Remedy RX Cleaner is approved to use during competition, but the Lanemaster Cleaner is not.

Brick,

I've heard you do this test before. I just got a used Vapor ZOne which has the exact same cover as the Absolute. So I just tried that test with Lanemasters cleaner, ethyl alcohol and Track's Power Wash. I had to exert and awful lot of pressure (the ball got very hot to the touch!) AND I had to use a lot of all 3 cleaners but you're right, Lanemasters did cause some color to get on the white micro-fiber towel I used. But so did the ethyl alcohol and the Power Wash.

I wanted to try it on another Activator coverstock, but I couldn't find the Zone Classic I have laying around. I should try it on the Strike Zone. It has the same cover (solid Activator) as John's Red Zone.

I wonder if it's not the amount of pressure, fluid and the Activator cover that's causing the removal of some of the color from the ball.

To add to the confusion, I've seen both Brunswick's High Gloss polish and Lanemasters Factory Finish polish remove some color from Brunswick and other brands of balls AND both are supposed to be non-abrasive.

My conclusion: if the smell bothers you, don't use it.
But as for ball coverstock color coming off, I don't think that is a real issue.

Charlest, on the Absolute Inferno, the color came off when cleaning the ball by hand. I never use a spinner to clean a ball. I always do it by hand. Anyhow, the color on the Absolute Inferno would come off when using Lanemasters, but never come off when using Ultimate Rejuvenator and Track Power Wash. I never had the color come off any other ball of which I used Lanemasters cleaner on, only on the Absolute Inferno did it do this.

On polishes, I have never had color come off with the Brunswick's High Gloss Polish and Lanemasters Factory Finish Polish. But then again I probably don't do as much polishing as you do as I only have a few balls at a time and I probably bowl quite a bit less than you do, thus less surface maintenance and polishing required.

I had cleaned the Red Zone thouroughly on my spinner.  There was no color on the paper towels.  When I saw the belt dressing left, I put a little of the Lane Masters on a paper towel and just slightly rubbed it by hand - no spinner.  Color on the towel.  I'm not concerned about the color coming from the ball, just used this as an example of how strong the Lane Masters is.  --  JohnP

I have used Lane Masters for about 2 years and I have not had any color removal but the only Big B stuff I have used it on have all been Black Balls ie Fury and Danger Zone.  I have switched to Remedy recently and it has been able to cover everything that LM could
