Can you make a 4000g pearl hook LESS?
« on: November 18, 2007, 08:01:44 AM »

Is there anything that can be done to make a ball that is already a pearl with a 4000g finish hook less?

Legends Extended Length polish (not the Factory Polish) or Track (nee Powerhouse) Delayed Reaction.  Both contain a slip agent that will give additional length and reduced backend reaction.

Get your hand more on the side of the ball at release will work

Polish will most likely just make it stronger downlane. You can always add a flare reducing weight hole.

More tilt = stronger backend reaction.

Not exactly. When im on a burnout shot or need to get the ball down lane I suitcase release and just play with how much finger I have in the ball. IMO ball surface and polishes only get you so far. This changes from bowler to bowler but the best luck I've ever had is changing release.

Things to try...

Release-wise:

a) Add side roll, will make it skid longer, but you sacrifice break point control.

b) Break back your wrist.

c) Add speed.

d) add axis tilt, so that the track lowers and the ball will, by tendency, also go longer and not move that much (IMHO for experienced users only, needs training)

Ball-wise:

a) Add polish. Hopefully, it gets the ball fruther down the lane but can also make it even more itchy at the breakpoint!

b) try a rougher grit. Sounds counter-productive, but in some cases a less fine surface might even out the overall reaction - I had this with a Pure Hammer. With polish, the ball hooked as if crazy, but at 1500 grit it became a still hooking-happy but easier tio control piece

c) add a flare-reducing hole above your PAP
