Polish or Grit?
« on: September 25, 2006, 06:05:15 AM »
I have to bowl 2 leagues tonight. The first league I sub in. The oil is quite heavy so I use my Morich Awesome Hook. The grit is around 1200. I can use this ball for the entire 3 games just moving left. I then bowl my actual league after in the same house. We usually wait about a half hour between leagues because there are always the slower teams finishing up. By the time I start the second league the lanes are really fried. I want to use my Morich Shock & Awe. Here's my problem ...Should I polish the heck out of it? Or should I take the grit up to 3000 or 4000? Also would I polish over that? Sorry for the dumb questions. I still want the length and sharp break point but, it is so dry I usually burn up half way through the lanes and leave weak tens.I have tried to go super deep but unfortuantely, so does everyone else so there really isn't any oil anywhere. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Most balls on the market take to coverstock adjustments very well; I'd suggest trying it at 2000 and 4000 abralon levels before polishing, and may try each with polish too ... bottom line is that you WON'T hurt the ball and you get to see what kind of reactions that you see with each grit and grit polish level.
Good luck !!!

I would not polish the S&A - simply for the fact that it uses Activator+ from Brunswick, a coverstock that becomes very nervous when polished, especially on dry boards. Polish will yield length, but chances are high that the ball becomes totally spasmic at the break point. A fate any Activator+ ball shares, as far as I can tell.

I'd rather try a "pure" 4.000 grit finish or use a high grit base (e. g 1.000 grit) and apply Brunswick's Rough Buff with some added water, or a 3M rubbing compound, to smooth out the surface.

Nevertheless, I think the S&A would basically be too much ball if the lane is really fried. It also depends on your style on drilling, but I'd also consider another ball "below" the S&A and leave it in the "middle field". Maybe a Sahara? It sis a nice ball for the situation you describe.
