Potential flying ball?
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:36:14 PM »
So I picked up a motor from an older guy that hangs out around the pro shop so I could replace a broken motor on my ball spinner.  It's 1/3 hp which is good but the problem is that it spins at 1400 rpm's.  I know traditional ball spinners don't spin at anything close to that.

My question is, if I use it like this, what would be the downside to all those rpm's when refinishing a coverstock?  If the spinner is bolted down would it fly away? lol I'm just not a very mechanical person so I'm clueless when it comes to anything like this stuff.  It could either be a really quick way to do a ball or a really cool show

What is the speed of the motor? you need to change out the pulleys on the motor.

A smaller pulley on the motor and a larger pulley
on the bowl should make  the bowl slower.

the motor really doesn't say it basically just says that it's 1/3 hp and 1400 rpm...I will try the pulley switch and see what I can come up with...hey i guess it's better than buying a whole new spinner

Once you get it going you are going to have to have the video camera near by

you can get a rpm dial and splice it into the system.. then you can control how fast you want the ball to spin with turning the dial up and down, sorta like a dimmer dial/switch for a light.. that would probably be the easiest solution.. slashrr69

Make sure you don't use a dimmer switch to speed control an AC motor.

I will try the RPM dial.  Hopefully I don't electrocute myself lol.  Hopefully it works out that way I don't have to buy a new one, as I am but a poor college student.
