Powerhouse Product Line - Gone?
« on: February 02, 2022, 12:13:30 PM »
With Brunswick's takeover of Ebonite, did the Powerhouse product line get discontinued?

I don't see them anywhere. If Powerhouse is gone, does anyone know of a product that is similar to the old Powerhouse Reaction Plus product? It's the one that is almost water-like in the bottle.

Powerhouse is still around, however their current product line does not seem to show Reaction Plus being available any longer.

I used to like Lane#1 Secret Sauce (aka Bean's Secret Sauce).  It was a polish with the consistency of water and it was amazing.  Of course, Lane#1 went under and the owner refused to sell the formula to another company.

Fortunately I still have a very small amount remaining and use it very sparingly.  If there is another product out there that is similar I would love to find out.

Yep, this product reminded me of Beans Sauce as well. Last place I found the secret sauce was in Antioch at the proshop of a guy who used to be a user here, RaiderH20Boy. He had an entire case of the stuff and it was just in a powder form that you mixed with water.

I have a little left of the Powerhouse stuff, it's the last of a one gallon jug I bought probably 8 years ago from Buddies Pro Shop I think.

Pretty sure KR made the Powerhouse products, you might see what they have.

KR does make the Powerhouse stuff under the KR label now.  It's virtually identical with only one exception that I've found.  I was a huge fan of the Powerhouse white bowlers tape, and KR swears that their Premium Sure Fit tape is the same thing repackaged (the regular Sure Fit is supposed to be the Ebonite tape repackaged).  However, I have purchased the KR tape and it simply is not the same.  It's slightly tackier and more abrasive, leading to me hanging up in the ball more as well as blister issues for the first time in many years.  I'd love some suggestions from anybody willing to offer them as to what their preferences for a better replacement would be.  One of the Vise options maybe?

Apparently, the new KR ball cleaners really do have the exact same formulation as the old Powerhouse cleaners, by the way.  From what I've been told (by very good authority), you can use them with confidence and expect to get the same results.
Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

Which one is identical to Reaction Plus? I'm on the KR website now and nothing jumps out as being identical to Reaction Plus looking at the names.

I'm pretty sure that it's the Pure Shine Ball Polish, but you should definitely get that confirmed by somebody who knows more than I do.

Reaction Plus was different than that regular polishes Powerhouse sold. It may have been discontinued before Big B consumed Ebonite.

I haven't bought it for several years as I have been using my large container.

If it's a cream, it won't be the same thing.

As others have alluded to, it was watery, had sort of a lime tint to it and you could feel abrasive material in it if you rubbed some between your fingers. It was (and still is) the best polish I've ever used by a wide margin over whatever comes in second. It had the unique ability to put a high, showroom-style shine on the ball while not affecting the backend reaction in any negative way. It just moved the breakpoint further down the lane while letting it retain its sharpness.

And the balls look amazing after using that.

Exactly! That's the stuff I'm looking for. It needed to be shaken up good before using as the abrasive material would settle to the bottom.

Interesting note on the tape, however I thought the KR tape was a bit smoother and not quite as thick as the Powerhouse Premium.

What you're describing is also similar to the Ultimate Quik Cut polish. I'm not sure if they're still producing it unfortunately.

That worked best for me as polish to get the ball through the fronts but still pick up down lane. Every other polish I've used, I immediately haze the surface with a pad to break the shine

Here's a note from Chad at Buddie's Pro Shop regarding the Powerhouse Reaction Plus:

---

Ebonite discontinued that product before KR took Powerhouse over.

Thank You,
