I have a Track Lx05 which comes 500/2000 dull.  At that finish it is too strong for my lanes.  The pro-shop sanded it to 1000 and added polish.  It's still a little too close to my main oil ball (Ebonite Legacy).  If I take it back to 2000 and add polish should I expect to see any significant difference or would I see a bigger difference if I sand it to 3000 and no polish.

Changing the surface won't dramatically change the strength of the ball, but it will change where on the lane you will see the reaction.  Higher overall grit will decrease the reaction you will see in oil and increase the reaction you will see in the dry.

You should see a higher surface grit on the ball with 2000+polish than you would with 3000 only.  Thus more reaction in dry.

Whether or not this is what you want, that is up to you.  Perhaps polish the Lx05 and use a lower grit on the Legacy to separate the two more.

Thanks so much.  I think I'll change the Lx to 2000 with polish and see if I can get more separation from the Legacy.  If not, I may have to try and find another ball that will fit in under the Legacy and above my Cyclone.  What I'm trying to do is get a ball that I can stay closest to my comfort zone which is 15 to 22 with my feet and 5 to 15 at the arrows. I start having problems when I have to move my feet deeper than 25 unless the lanes are really dry. I'm thinking the Ebonite Game Breaker Gold might be a good fit.
