Question
« on: January 10, 2009, 05:52:09 AM »
I have a ball that is 4000 grit polished and want to scuff up the polish a little, but not completely remove it.

Whats the best way to do this?

Thanks

Hit it very, very lightly with a white Scotchbrite pad.  --  JohnP

white pad is perfect for what I call hazing the polish, ball will read a foot or two quicker and still have a strong backend.

agree!

I always carry a used 4000 abralon pad with me in my tournament bag. It also works great for that purpose!

Steel wool (for cleaning cooking pots) is also a very good material to reduce the shine of a ball. Take the wool pad in your hand and just spin the ball gently on it from all sides, that should do the trick (similar toa 4.000 Abralon pad, maybe a tad rougher).

Like sandpaper steel wool comes in a lot of different degrees of
corseness. If one was to use steel wool to haze a ball's surface
I would suggest nothing corser than 00 or 000.

I normally will take my worn out 4k abralon pad and lightly scuff the surface by hand, I don't use a spinner for this.
