Question about sanding

If I have a (pearl) ball at 1000 polished, and take it up to 2000 abralon, will it increase overall hook potential?  Also, will it create more or less of a smooth arc shape?

2000 Abralon from 1000-grit polished should be very similar in oil handling capabilities.  The sanded ball will be a little smoother and less susceptible to carrydown as well.  That would be an excellent change to smooth out a ball that's inconsistent, jumpy, over/under.
