I've been told that Vertex's 1/2 HP spinner has two speeds and is substantially more expensive than the 1/3 HP model. That is not what shows on their website. They show a 1/3 HP and a 1/2 HP, both with one speed and only a $20 price difference. I can call them and ask, of course, but I still want to see what everyone here knows about it. I'm also interested in any opinions people have about their Vertex spinners.
Thanks,
Shiv
I also hear a rumor from a usually well-informed source that the Innovative company might be about to go under.

I have the 1/2 hp vertex. I think my speed switch must be hidden somewhere 'cause I havent found one yet.
works good except it takes a little more effort for polishing because of its lower speed compared to the innovative or the donkey
almost zero wobble!!! which is the biggest complaint I have heard of about the others. about the only wobble I get, which is minimal, is when the ball is in the cup with the rim on the horizontal axis line

I have the 1/3 hp vertex. I have found no problem with the single speed. I have tried to apply more pressure then necessary to stop the ball, which I couldn't. With the slower spinner speed though, it does take a few extra minutes to achieve a high polish finish. Worth the extra minutes versus no wobble though. If I were to purchase another spinner, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Vertex. Hope this helps......

I have the 1/2 hp model; it has on/off switching inline with the power cord. It does not have 2 speeds that I know about.

Maybe the two speeds are on and off?

Bowling? Of course it's a sport.

I have a 1/3 HP vertex and is only one speed. It works great.
I did have one problem, after a few months use the on/off switch started to act up and eventually stopped working. Sometimes it would turn on, sometimes it wouldn't. When it would turn on, sometimes it would not turn off. I simply took it off and replaced it with a light switch. Works gret now, and I like the new switch much better.
I have not seen a 1/2 HP, but maybe it does offer another speed, but maybe the speed is adjusted by there being a smaller pully on the bottom? Take a look, maybe you have to move the belt or something, I don't know.
NO WOBBLE what so ever

I have the 1/2 HP model in my pro shop and I must say I have been more than impressed with it's performance. It replaced a rather pricey Jayhawk spinner and has gone above and beyond what the Jayhawk was capable of.
Yes it is true, there is only 1 speed but I have had absolutely no problem getting a nice gloss polish on anything I wanted. The 2 keys to doing it as I have found is to use a product such as Tracks Clean N Sheen to remove any residual sanding marks before applying the polish and 2, have several different styles of cloths sitting there to use.
Using this method I have virtually eliminated my need for a dozen different polish compounds. About all I use anymore is:
Storm Diamond Gloss
Storm X-tra Shine
Storm Xtras stages 1,2,3
Track Clean N Sheen
Black Magic Rejuvenator (orange label)
Black Magic Polish (black label)
Applicators:
Soft white sponges, yellow coarse sponges, car wax applicator pads, red shop towles, diaper cloth and flannel cloths
I do have the majority of a Squeeky Clean kit left sitting in the cabinet but my guess is that it's probably rock hard by now.
The Vertex is well worth the money. And it has been said many times here.... NO WOBBLE!!!! I had an X Factor with 4 oz top weight on the thing with the disk at 45* tilt and it still did not wobble much at all even with all of that imbalance.

Thanks to everybody! I'm going to go ahead and order the Vertex 1/2 HP model. I figure that for $20, I might as well get the extra power.

This is slightly off topic.
If there is only 1 drive, then the only way it'll have 2 speed is from the motor.
If the motor nameplate states only 1 RPM (usually 1725)then you only have 1 speed. Otherwise it'll state 2 RPM. which can be through connection or by a switch.

I just called Vertex and placed my order, and found out for certain that the spinners are available in only one speed. I also found out that they are discontinuing the different colors due to lack of demand, although there is one silver and one green left. Best of all, I found out to my surprise that they are located in Lapeer, MI, which is only one county away so I should have it by the middle of next week!
Thanks again,
Shiv
