Ric,
C'mon now. Glad you got the word from the "horse's mouth", but you're getting too bogged down about this, a little too concerned about the tiniest of details.
The ball doesn't know squat; it reacts. Most half pearl, half solid balls are polished. The pearl makes it get down the lane; the solid makes it get down not as far as a pearl alone. You get the best or the worst of both worlds, depending on how you look at it. More depends on the actual characteristics of the resin material than whether they are solid, pearl or half and half.
Here's an example of what I mean. I had both a Crash and have a CrunchTime. Both, according to Track (and I asked them) are half pearl and half solid, BUT are different resins. With both drilled the same, my Crash was skid/flip, erratic ball, while my CrunchTime is as reliable as a clock, even, almost a control ball (when I throw it right, hee-hee!). And, yes, they have different cores.
There are a ton of these balls out there now and most are a pretty good combination. Here's some off the top of my head:
Apocalypse
Smash/R
Thing
Element AU79
Crash
CrunchTime
Turbo Diesel
Hercules
and, now, the Wild (which idea, I like a whole lot).
I'm sure other people can add many more.
