Polish by hand
« on: August 08, 2005, 02:15:13 AM »
Which of the current polishes will work decently when applied by hand? I believe I saw something on line that takes the ball to 3500 grit and can be applied by hand. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Storm has a polish that will go to 3500. You can apply by hand. Xtra Shine is the name of it. It's a good polish, however, I still think most polish works better on a spinner.

Any polish can be hand applied if you're willing to put in the elbow grease.  But I think you'll find it worth the $$$ to either buy a spinner or let your pro shop do the work for you.  --  JohnP

Krumpy,

Storm's Xtra Shine has the potential to take a ball to 3500 grit polished. You wil NOT be able to do it by hand. All those numbers in/on any polish are the maximum number, WHEN used with a spinner, with serious pressure and with some serious time on a spinner.

Believe me when I tell you I tried to resurface a ball, I tried changing surfaces by hand, I tried all kinds of polishes by hand.without a spinner. They are long, tedious procedures that will usually NOT get your ball where you want it to be. The factor of using a spinner vs not using a spinner to do these things is roughly 1:20; hours versus minutes is not an exaggeration.

I strongly urge serious bowlers like yourself to forego 1 or 2 new balls and get a spinner and all the accessories (polishes, sandpaper, nylon pads, cloths, etc) necessary to make it work. If you have 6 or 10 balls and you are a tournament bowler, it can only help in the long run.
